Tips to Encourage You Child to Write in a Foreign Language

Posted by

## Foreword

I have been teaching writing for over twenty-five years, and have had the privilege of working with thousands of students of all ages. Over the years, I have come to realize the importance of writing in the lives of children and young people, and how important it is for them to have opportunities to write in their own language. I have also come to understand how difficult it can be to get children to write, especially in a language they do not speak well. As a result, I wanted to write a book that would help parents, teachers, and other professionals who work with children to get them started on the path to writing in a foreign language. In this book, I will share with you some of the things I have learned over the years about how to encourage your child to write. I hope that you will find this book helpful in your efforts to help your child develop his or her love of writing.

Preface

As a teacher of writing, I am always looking for ways to help my students develop their writing skills. One of the most important skills that students need to develop is the ability to read and write in a second language. However, it is not always easy to get students to begin writing in their second language, especially when they are very young. This is especially true for students who are learning English as a second or foreign language (ESL).

One of the reasons that it is so difficult to get ESL students to write is that many of them do not know how to read or write in the language they are learning. For example, if a student is learning Spanish, he or she may not be able to read a book written in Spanish because the student does not know the alphabet or how to pronounce the words. The same is true for a student who is learning English. If a student has not learned to read in English, it will be very difficult for him or her to begin reading in Spanish or any other language. If you are a parent, teacher, or someone who works with children, I hope you will read this book and find out how to get your child or student to start writing in Spanish.

Acknowlegments

First and foremost, I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to be a teacher. I also want to express my appreciation to the many people who have helped me along the way. I would like to thank my husband for his love and support, and my parents for instilling in me the love of learning and writing. I am also grateful to my children for their patience and understanding when I have had to be away from them for long periods of time while I was working on this project. Finally, I wish to thank all of the people who helped me in the preparation of this book by reading and commenting on the manuscript.

## The Importance of Writing

Writing is an important part of life. It is a way for us to express our thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Writing is also a way to communicate with other people. We write letters to friends and family, we write thank-you notes, and we write reports to our teachers and parents. We also write stories, poems, songs, and plays. Writing allows us to share our thoughts and feelings with others, and it gives us a sense of self-worth. In short, writing is important because it is a part of who we are and what we do. It helps us to understand ourselves and the world around us. This chapter will help you to understand why writing is so important to children and how you can help them to develop their love for writing. It will also give you some ideas about ways you can get your children or students started on their writing journey.
